eginning with a helpful section on marketing yourself and preparing demo packages, and then shifting into a 4,000-listing guide to labels and publishers, with thirty style codes identifying the types of music being solicited, this is a very usable format. The directory is compiled by an independent publisher with a built-in need to know this information, and, at least through 1995, the staff was seeking new listings. I tend to be a cheerleader for these independent directories, knowing that some will find an important and lasting place on industry bookshelves.
