Pictures from No Man's Land: St. Margaret's School for Girls, Edinburgh.

In 1984 David Williams was invited to spend six months as a photographer-in-residence at Scotland's premiere boarding school for girls - St Margaret's School For Girls in Edinburgh. "Pictures From No Man's Land" is an unusual and stunning photographic book arising out of this extraordinary assignment and subsequent touring exhibition. The photographs are variously candid, refreshing and shrewd. Williams says of the project 'instead of simply documenting six months in the life of an exclusive girls' school I decided I wanted to say something very clearly about the way young girls mature into adolescents within that sort of institution'.
