Implementing the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act

NAGPRA is in its second decade. The museum field is just becoming aware of the long-term policy implications of the act. This book shares the experiences of a decade, including a substantial sampling of museum policy and procedures for compliance, discussion of the meeting of two world views around museum implementation of NAGPRA, some examples of repatriation activities and of collaborations between museums and Native Americans, and a section on ethical considerations related to NAGPRA. The information contained in this report will assist museums in planning the long-term policies and relationships encouraged by the intent and spirit of the law.
