Although the size and population of Prince Edward Island have always precluded it from being of major significance in the political and economic life of Canada, a knowledge of its history adds an important dimension to our understanding of Canada. This book describes the efforts of a small society to preserve a measure of its individuality with the French and British Imperial systems and later within the framework of the Dominion of Canada.
