The Chief's Blanket

Many years ago, before the white settlers arrived in red rock country, there lived a skilled Navajo weaver named Mockingbird Song. She was known far and wide for her beautiful blankets. Mockingbird Song had a granddaughter called Flower After the Rain, whom she taught to weave. As they worked at their looms, Mockingbird Song would tell her granddaughter stories of the great chiefs from the north who would someday barter for her blankets. Flower longed to meet one of these great chiefs, and often looked with eager anticipation toward the distant horizon. <p>One day, a chief and his braves arrive at grandmother's home. After they leave, Flower learns that the chief has asked for one of her blankets. Overcome with uncertainty, she is comforted by Mockingbird Song. &quot;Trust yourself, child, and always ask Great Spirit to guide you.&quot; How Flower overcomes her hears and weaves her first chief's blanket, and how she helps her beloved grandmother, offers insight into the values of the Navajo people and inspiration for today's world.:</p>
