The colonization of New Zealand forms the background for Dorothy Eden's saga of adventure and mystery. Sir John brings his fragile wife and daughter to this strange, wild country. The atmosphere is truly Victorian, genteel and redolent of rustling silk and elaborate picnics despite alien circumstances. The story, for all its plot, is not a fast-paced one, and Dover does not rush. She reads Kate's part well. When open emotion is called for, she shows herself very able. S.B.S.
