MARCEL: Simulating the Novice Programmer (Cognition and Computing Series)

How do students write programs and can this process be simulated? The author attempts to answer these questions with MARCEL, a student simulation program. The model of student programming is based on data collected from Yale undergraduates working on arithmetic word tasks.
