Souvenir, a collection of autobiographical essays rooted in the present, investigates travel, staying put, and how it is that our experience of being here right now includes so much of being elsewhere at another time. Rhett reconciles present to past in serious encounters with birth and death, alongside lighter observations. In a world that makes no sense except the sense we make of it, Souvenir plays with the dynamics of home and away to represent the fullness of daily life.

Essays to Remember
Kathryn Rhett's new book is a collection of essays that read like a novel. The title itself is perfect; Rhett's collection evoked my own memories, almost as if she were writing my story - the names and events may differ, but the experience and emotions are the same. I am not a writer, but I was inspired to put down some of my own thoughts and remembrances as I read - that has not happened to me with any other book. Rhett's prose is flawless, and I found myself lingering over her words and sentences as if reading poetry. I am planning on giving Souvenir as a Christmas gift to my daughter and to dear friends. I expect in return deep thanks and wonderful conversations. Read more
