Women in 19th Century America

The Other Half of History explores an aspect of history that is often overlooked - the history of women.In 1776 the Declaration of Independence promised a bright future for the new nation of America. Women shared this dream, but they did not share the rights of its citizens, because women were not counted as citizens. Like children, criminals, and the insane, they had no right to vote. They could not go to college or train for a career, but were expected to serve their country as wives and mothers. This book tells the story of a growing nation, and of the women who fought society, the law, and the Constitution for a greater part in its history.
