William Veitch behaved so scandalously in the living of St. Saviour's Church , Paddington that he was obliged to retire to a modest county parish in Sussex. Scarcely the place for a man used the sophisticated pleasures of the great metropolis. But to his astonishment and delight the country girls prove quite able to entertain him in the manner to which he is accustomed. There is Molly, for example whose activities he can watch through a hole in the wall. And his Lordship's daughter, Adeline whose fondness for making confession in the privacy of her own room more than makes up for the fact that Vicar Veitch's enemies are soon conspiring again to bring about his downfall.
