Read, an active storyteller, teacher, and researcher, is the author with Brian Sturm of The Storyteller's Sourcebook: A Subject, Title, and Motif Index to Folklore Collections for Children, 1983-1999 (Gale, 2001) as well as the previous edition of Twenty Tellable Tales (Wilson, 1986). The tales and commentary in this edition have been reprinted from the original edition. The updated chapter on sources includes video recordings of storytellers telling tales as well as tips for storytellers. There are even resources for telling stories in American Sign Language. This is a memorable gem of a book, promising enjoyment for both teller and listener. It will be indispensable for library-school courses on storytelling and a welcome addition to school and public libraries with storytelling programs.
