Gr 5-8-A brief yet solid introduction to many facets of baby-sitting, from responsibility, preparation, and precaution, to safety (indoors and out), authority, and employment opportunities. An opening situational paragraph introduces an idea that is then explained in the chapter. Occasional black-and-white and color photos support the text. While the author touches on many of the same issues, this volume is less detailed than Harriet Brown's The Babysitter's Handbook (Pleasant Company, 1999) and Debra Zakarin's The Ultimate Babysitter's Handbook (Price Stern Sloan, 1997). Weintraub doesn't offer the same kind of information in terms of checklists and care plans found in those titles, but she does include boys as baby-sitters, which Brown's volume does not.
