Grade 3-5-Temko provides background information on the technique and the significance of the eight crafts explored in each of these titles. Her clear and consistent, step-by-step directions are easy to follow and the required materials are easily obtainable. Where applicable, caution notes are given and adult help is indicated. The illustrative material includes photos, drawings, labeled diagrams, and simple color maps. Unfortunately, the map of Japan shows the Atlantic rather than the Pacific Ocean. Despite this, these titles are useful supplements to the "World Crafts" series (Watts), the "Worldwide Crafts" series (Gareth Stevens), and "Country Topics for Craft Projects" series (Watts), as well as Alexandra Terzian's The Kids' Multicultural Art Book (Williamson, 1993).
