New Zealander Schuster has written an authoritative guide to the major cacti genera found throughout the world. Much of the book includes brief plant descriptions and information on growing conditions for cacti along with color photos of the plants. Separate chapters on propagation and cultural conditions to grow cacti are provided. A minor concern is the lack of U.S. sources in the appendix, which lists suppliers of plants and seed. Another good source on this subject is Willy Cullman and others' En cyclopedia of Cacti ( LJ 12/86).- Dale Luchsinger, Athens Area Technical Inst.
