This collection of eleven musical settings for psalms was designed for liturgical use; some were composed for particular liturgical events, i.e., confirmations, ordinations, jubilees. Where appropriate, guitar chords are given, and while all music is suitable for keyboard use, in a few cases the piano is specified because the nature of the accompaniment would not best suit the organ. Provision is also made in the book for more developed resources. Groups that have a choir and/or other soloists will frequently find parts written for them. The performance notes at the end of the book will suggest further ways that a particular psalm may be sung and when it should be used. Since all settings are written in the responsorial style, they may be used during the Liturgy of the Word. Each setting normally has an instrumental introduction after which the cantor sings the antiphon. The assembly sings the antiphon then and again after each verse of the psalm.
