The viewer is treated to many sensory pleasures in this engaging, five-part series on how the art of painting has evolved throughout human history. Sister Wendy, who joined the Sisters of Notre Dame back in the 1940s, begins this first segment of her five-part series by inviting viewers to view the cave paintings of our ancestors at Lascaux. Colorful drawings of Mongolian horses and large bison await us. Though these paintings are somewhat primitive, Sister Wendy believes we shouldn't be judgmental. After all, "art is about being human. . .it expresses all that is best in us. . ." She says that though art changes over time, "it doesn't get better. It simply adapts to new cultural realities and ways that people find to express themselves." Egyptian art painted on the walls of elaborate tombs, the buried city of Pompeii, and Gothic masterpieces are also featured in this segment.
