Feeling a touch world-weary, Lori Shepherd decides to volunteer at the Radcliffe Infirmary and spread a little good cheer. There she meets Elizabeth Beacham, a kind, retired legal secretary, and the two become quick companions before Miss Beacham suddenly passes away. It soon becomes clear that there was more to the gentle invalid than met the eye, and, with the help of Aunt Dimity, Lori begins to unearth her secrets.
