Grade 3-6-These three slim volumes are similar in content to Audrey Seah's Vietnam (Marshall Cavendish, 1993), but are less detailed and written for a younger audience. Culture focuses on such topics as music, the theater, fashion, foods (with recipes), architecture, crafts, beliefs, and celebrations. In addition to geographic and climatic information, Land includes a brief history and descriptions of farming, fishing, the transportation network, and wildlife. People covers family structure; housing; life in the city, the hills, and on the river; language; education; livelihoods; and pastimes. There is little overlap among the clearly written, accurate texts. While short on statistics, these books nevertheless give an excellent picture of life in Vietnam, in no small part due to the numerous, full-color, highly interesting photographs.
