Grade 2–4—Fourteen colorful spreads introduce the origins of Eid al-Adha and how it is celebrated. Because three of the spreads are dedicated to Islam in general, the book will be most effective at educating a non-Muslim audience. The connections between the topics are occasionally tenuous. For example, there is a spread on Hajj, but nowhere is the connection between the pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha made clear, a significant oversight. The text and color photographs adequately express the diversity of the world's Muslim population, though only a few of them show how the holiday is celebrated in the Western world. This general work does a good job of explaining an important Muslim holiday to non-Muslims, but it is flawed.—Kristin Anderson, Columbus Metropolitan Library System, OH Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
