This work is in two volumes, which are paged and indexed together but are sold separately, Choudhury (economics, Qaboos U., Oman; and U. College of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) limits the scope of his study of Qur'an to the search for the Qur'anic worldview in the social and scientific order, and develops and applies this worldview in a methodological way. He argues that diverse fields of intellectual inquiry are governed and explainable by the unique epistemology of unity of divine knowledge, called tawhid, and shows how, within this epistemology, Qur'anic rules can be used to derive a unique scientific formalism. This system he then applies to various issues and problems of the socio-scientific order. Annotation (c) 2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
