Gr 6 Up-This straightforward presentation serves as a basic introduction to the causes and consequences of teen pregnancy. Topics covered include factors that place young women at risk, including our highly sexualized culture and the decreasing influence of parents; reasons that teens might become pregnant, including sexual abuse, low self-esteem, and substance abuse; and choices for pregnant teens. None of these topics is discussed in any great length and little attention is given to the emotional consequences of miscarriage or abortion. Instead, most of the discussion centers on single mothers who keep their children and struggle to support them. The focus here is on facts and statistics, which adequately support the discussion, and not on personal anecdotes or survival stories.
