- Elizabeth Norton
In this follow-up to The Dragon Of Trelian (Candlewick, 2009/Voya June 2009), Princess Meg is preparing to be formally named princess-heir of Trelian, as well as adjusting to being mentally linked to her dragon, Jakl. Meg and Jakl are able to feel one another's emotions through the link, and lately, Meg wonders if the link may be malfunctioning, as she suffers from nightmares and uncontrollable fits of rage. Meg thinks that her best friend, apprentice mage Calen, could help her, but he and his master are away at the Magistratum for Calen's Marking Ceremony, the formal beginning of his apprenticeship. Then they are detained when the Magistratum is attacked during the ceremony.
