Suicide Bombers: Foot Soldiers of the Terrorist Movement

This title that considers a timely topic uses a variety of primary source materials to examine the motivations that drive young men and women to carry out suicide attacks. Landau discusses the political, religious, social, and personal pressures that make young people vulnerable to recruiters for these deadly acts. Beginning with a profile of typical suicide bombers, Landau examines how recruiters identify individuals as well as the methods of training that are used. Although the book focuses primarily on Islamic radicals, one chapter discusses Japanese kamikaze pilots in World War II. Photographs, sidebars, and highlighted text are used effectively.
