Right away the reader is introduced by the main characters to a few secrets . Quinn is helping Nick keep up the illusion that she is his girlfriend when really his thoughts (sleeping and waking) are consumed with Adam, her dance partner. Nick is too afraid to tell his brothers, even though they share a closer bond since their parents died. Gabriel's twin brother making comments that a dude hitting on another guy is creepy does not exactly inspire confidence in Nick to share his secret. Meanwhile, Quinn has her share of difficulties in that she cannot return home to her drunken mother and drug-using brother. She is rescued by Tyler, who turns out to have secrets of his own.
