In the 1930s, Derek Tangye was a "deb's delight", seen with many young socialites. Working in Fleet Street, he saw the other side of life. When he met Jean, head of public relations for the Savoy Hotel Group, their subsequent marriage was a meeting of minds. Their abandonment of London for a rustic life on a Cornwall cliff-top led to the writing of The Minack Chronicles, establishing Minack as a haven for Derek's readers.
