From School Library Journal Grade 10 Up–The emphasis here is on African Americans and Hispanic Americans but not to the exclusion of other groups. Chapter headings, such as Is Racism a Serious Problem? and What Should Government Do to Improve Race Relations? are relevant, and the articles are pertinent. Topics include the pros and cons of reparations to black people for slavery, interracial marriage, race as a consideration in public policy, etc. In addition, the introductions to the pieces offer valuable summaries and helpful questions. Unfortunately, smaller articles inserted as sidebars distract from the main text. Some of the articles are compelling, but the majority are dry, making this a book for serious, higher-level researchers.
