From School Library Journal Grade 9 Up–The selections here present the opposing viewpoints on four central questions: Should Israel exist and, if so, as what type of state; what are the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; is peace possible; and what should U.S. policy be toward Israel? The brief introduction to each piece directs relevant questions to readers; those of a broader, more analytical nature are found in the appendix. As might be expected, many of the edited selections are very passionate and strident in tone. Students wanting to corroborate or refute them will need much greater historical knowledge than what is presented in the sketches that introduce the volume and chapters. A map showing the location of the security fence would have been helpful. Use this in conjunction with impartial historical and political accounts of this conflicted region.
