From School Library Journal PreSchool-K-On the day before Easter, Magpie and Cuckoo give the Easter Bunny a gigantic egg for a present. Unfortunately, when it hatches, the young ostrich that emerges believes that Easter Bunny is her mother. The plot is a weak takeoff of P. D. Eastman's Are You My Mother? (Beginner, 1960). There is awkwardness in the translation such as "whoever did must be great friends of yours" or "It needs to be hatched." Readers will enjoy the comic humor in the illustrations. Front endpapers show an innocent Easter Bunny hopping eagerly toward a huge egg. Rear endpapers show an ostrich speeding away. All in all, the colorful full-page artwork is stronger than the text. Supplemental fare.
