From School Library Journal Grade 3-6--Make Clothes Fun! offers ten projects using fabric paint, stencils, tie dying, buttons, embroidery, etc. A variety of materials, such as clay, paper, fabric, and papier mache, are utilized to Make Sculptures! Both oversized volumes are illustrated with clear and attractive full-color photographs. Children are encouraged to substitute materials, improvise as they go along, and exercise their creativity. However, the bare-bones instructions may be confusing and frustrating for those unfamiliar with the techniques described. There are some wonderful ideas here, but the books are not suited to rank beginners. Safety tips and proper care of materials and work areas are mentioned. These are fine additions for experienced crafters and adults working with children. --Florence M.
