From Library Journal Prolific author Rees (see Essential English Style, reviewed on p. 60) begins each of these books with a history for the skill, its use in decoration, and a review of necessary tools and equipment. She then devotes most of the book to projects. The finishes in Gilding are more succinctly covered in Simon Cavelle's Encyclopedia of Decorative Paint Techniques (Running Pr., 1994), however, and beginners attempting to use the too-minimal instructions in Caning will have more success with Bruce C. Miller and Jim Widess's Caner's Handbook (Lark, 1991). By trying to fit these topics into a uniform format, the information is hampered.Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
