About the Author Deborah Hill wrote the Kingsland Saga 38 years ago, starting with This is the House in 1975. Covering the years immediately after the Revolution, this novel concludes shortly after the War of 1812. The House of Kingsley Merrick, the second volume in the Kingsland Series, begins as the Clipper Ship era opens, and continues into the Gilded Age with the Merricks' daughter fighting for her father's honor and her own chance to love. The third and concluding novel, based on the author's own experience, will be released in 2014. Hill began her writing career as a child, creating an adventure story for the amusement of her sixth grade classmates. While living on Cape Cod, she became aware of the unique heritage of her husband's family, starting with a memoir written by the sea-faring ancestor fictionalized in This is the House. But the family history didn't stop there, and is the subject of her second novel, The House of Kingsley Merrick. She draws from her own experience in the third, The Heir. When Hill retired, she was in a position of edit, and, where needed, rewrite her work, but even more important, use the internet to verify the historical details.
