From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 4-This book is loaded with clear, engaging, and realistic full-color photos. The text opens with a picture of a day-old black bear, tiny and bald, climbing on its mother's snout. There is a shot of a family of grizzlies eating salmon, one of polar bear cubs using their mother as a heating pad, and one of a black bear cub clinging to a tree trunk. Like Diane Swanson's Bears (Gareth Stevens, 1998), the text is accessible and filled with details that will interest children. Although it occasionally lists toward cuteness, the presentation is nonetheless factual and informative. An appealing addition to nature sections.
