From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 4?This interactive Halloween story delivers both tricks and treats to its readers. Few children will be able to resist the appeal of the format: the book includes five different images (witch; a cauldron brew of snails, snakes and spiders; jack-o'-lanterns; a spiral "spell"; and smiling toads) that can be projected onto a wall or ceiling using a flashlight. The plot is simple and the tone mildly spooky; the witch is friendly and her revenge is more of a practical joke than a scary attempt to get even for the visit Ashley and Andrew paid her last Halloween. The text, which is printed in white on a black background, is on the left side of each double-page spread. The artwork is bright and colorful with an acetate window built into the upper right-hand corner of each picture for the projection image. A fun, but not-too-spooky, book that won't collect dust on any shelf regardless of the season.?Maura Bresnahan, Topsfield Town Library, MACopyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.
