Mother Halverson's New Cat

From School Library Journal PreSchool-K-- Mother Halverson's beloved cat has died and she isn't hardhearted, simply practical, when she sends her husband to the barn for another good mouser. After returning with one cat that is too crabby, another that's too flabby, and one too blabby, the only cat left in the barn is a quiet, shy tabby. Mother Halverson names her Abby, and declares that she is the perfect mouser and, oh yes, the perfect pet. The text has a folksy cadence which begs to be read aloud. The simple, repetitive storyline will engage young preschoolers, while the understated humor will be appreciated by slightly older listeners. The watercolor illustrations, with their solid yet humorous figures, are a perfect complement to the text. Sure to be a hit in story hours or family sharing. --Karen K.
