From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 1?Zoe and her mother decide that the child will have a slumber party. The birthday girl, four of her friends, and her parents go to a restaurant for pizza and cake, then to a drugstore to pick out nail polish for manicures. At home, the girls paint pictures on rocks, then get ready for bed. At bedtime, they argue, cry, become frightened while reading a scary story, and find it difficult to sleep. Zoe's mother calms them down with a funny story so that they are able to make it through the night. The illustrations, while pleasant and reflective of the ongoing activities, are flat and cartoonlike. While the book is too young in vocabulary, tone, and pictures for children most likely to be invited to this type of party, it will reassure those who begin attending sleepovers at an early age.?Anne Parker, Milton Public Library, MACopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.
