From School Library Journal Grade 2-4?Langford has collected 14 variations on the familiar game. From "Otedama" in Japan to "Maakgep" in Thailand, detailed directions and rules are presented along with brief, interesting facts about the countries in which the games originated. The colorful watercolor and colored-pencil illustrations fill one page, with the text preceding it on the left-hand page. While competently done and attractive, the artwork is occasionally misleading in its depiction of very young children. The text is written for competent readers and the dexterity involved in the games also suggests an older audience. This sequel to Hopscotch around the World (Morrow, 1992) is appropriate for multicultural classroom units and would make a good teacher resource for indoor recess.?Janet M.
