From School Library Journal Grade 1-3-- A useful book filled with basic information, this will be most appreciated by students who suffer from such maladies. Types of allergies are listed, followed by a brief explanation of the workings of the immune system. A history of research, the various allergens, and current treatment options complete the text. Coverage is by necessity brief, but complete enough to give readers a fundamental understanding of the topic. Well written, clear, and readable, the text avoids condescension. The subject demands that some technical terms be included; they are defined in the text. Two-color cartoon-style drawings are amusing and add interest. A small bug, similar to a mosquito, appears throughout, often highlighting items of interest. While there are several recent titles on the subject, this is the first geared to this audience. --Denise L. Moll, Lone Pine Elementary School, West Bloomfield, MICopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
