From Library Journal This is a massive compilation based mostly on basic information from free lists and pamphlets obtained from national wildlife refuges and other organizations. The first half of the book is organized by state/province and lists birding hotlines, bird clubs (unfortunately, phone numbers and addresses are lacking), descriptions and basic maps of selected key birding areas, plus addresses and phone numbers of refuges and agencies. The last half consists of data tables, including phylogenetic orders, and birds' seasonal status. There is so much information in this reference source that it is bound to be useful to anyone interested in these places and their birds. However, it is not a complete or comprehensive text. This is best used as a starting point and/or in conjunction with Laura and William Riley's Guide to the National Wildlife Refuges ( LJ 5/15/79).
