Here, readers follow a baby bactrian camel and its family as they live together in this protected habitat. There are more than 40 captivating, full-color photographs, almost one per page, that correlate with Arnold's organized, fact-filled text. Her detailed descriptions serve as more than the traditional captions that usually accompany photographs in such nonfiction material. She carefully completes each description on the same page as the featured photograph. This approach makes for a clear and distinct account of physical traits and various camel behaviors that flow together into one essay rather than into fragmented chapters. There is no table of contents for quick research, but there is a subject/photo index. This author/illustrator team has a way of guiding readers to unusual places where they can get to know animals with unusual faces. This book is no exception. --Myra R.
