FROM LIBRARY JOURNAL
This new guidebook by Sagalyn (The Great American Web Book: A Citizen's Guide to the Treasures of the US Government on the World Wide Web, LJ 10/1/96) reminds travelers that the lands managed by the National Park Service (NPS) extend far beyond the boundaries of the well-known national parks. This book offers overviews of 376 sites administered by the NPS, including national parks, lakeshores, battlefields, military parks, memorials, parkways, trails, and other public lands. Each entry provides a mailing address, telephone number, and World Wide Web address to contact for additional information, as well as a brief description of the site. Although the guide is complete insofar as federal lands are concerned, its scope is too narrow for travelers interested in seeing all the sights at a given destination, not simply those under the aegis of the U.S. government. Despite this caveat, the book would serve as a useful companion to a more comprehensive guidebook. Recommended for large travel collections.?Pamela W.
