Graining and marbling - the craft of painting materials to imitate wood or marble - has seen a considerable revival in the last few years. Recent refurbishments of hotels and restaurants, for example, have produced some fine examples of the work, and it has also been used to great effect in the decoration of private houses. There is currently an enormous demand for information on the subject, but very little is available. This classic manual, compiled originally by the late John Parry, was first published over 35 years ago and has been out of print for many years. It has now been reissued and revised with updated information on materials and a new chapter added on broken colour effects, including ragging, dragging, stippling, sponging and shading.
