Researching Anthropology on the Internet

The booklet is divided into two main parts: Part I: Guide to Using the Internet and Part II: Researching Anthropology on the Web. Part I of the guide focuses on how to get started using the Web for research in general, using anthropology sites as examples. Topics include how to communicate on the Web, conducting simple searches, finding current events, using Web rings, etc. (7 sections) . The author clearly links how each of these components can serve as a means to learn more about anthropology on the Internet. A list of referenced Web addresses where students can find the resources discussed is provided at the end of each main section. Part II of the text goes into detail concerning specific resources for locating information on the five main fields of anthropology: Cultural Anthropology; Linguistics; Physical Anthropology; Archaeology; and Applied Anthropology. A section is devoted to each of the five main fields and its sub fields. A number of specific Web site resources for each sub field are discussed, their usefulness is assessed, and their Web addresses are then referenced at the end of each section. The material is presented in a straightforward and accessible manner that will allow students to quickly find resources for a number of anthropological topics, including those that have limited coverage on the Web. The conclusion of Part II contains useful information and links for Web sites pertaining to jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities available for students with an interest in pursuing a career in anthropology.
