Astounding, honest, funny, absolutely hilarious!
Jen Lancaster's third memoir is the first book I have read of her list of memoirs but be sure that I am getting all of them now. In fact I had so much fun reading her 3rd memoir that I have started reading it again! Jen loves herself and her life and she makes no apologies for what she believes in, what she likes or dislikes and much less about the people who surround her or the system. This is a woman who doesn't shrink in front of life she just goes ahead and grabs life and the balls and lives it. Truly fantastic and admirable. Most people I know would be very uncomfortable with her up front attitude, her bitchiness and her forwardness and I just love her for it. In Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist's Quest to Discover If Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, or Why Pie Is Not the Answer ( I just love the long and amusing titles, had to be Jen) Jen discovers that her health might be an issue since she seems to have gained 30lbs in one year, and her Dr. is not happy about her diet or her lack of exercise. Jen decides to lose weight to be healthier and in the process she shows us how the diet industry in the USA is just that and industry where they don't necessarily care about your health or your autonomy and capability to make responsible decisions but they just want your dough. Jen realizes that once she has embarked in this quest to write a book documenting her weight loss and healthier way of living, she must grow up and get fit. She tries almost everything but her turning point is when she realizes that being healthy is following this simple equation = move more and eat less. We are always faced with temptation but being conscious of our wellbeing demands that we don't give in but make sensible choices. Not only is the book full of Jen's snarky humor (and the footnotes...I love her footnotes!), but it's also an inspiring true story about a plus-size woman's determination to lose weight. I really admire Jen for her honesty, her dedication, and her results. Read more
