This book is an effort to bring forth considerations for therapist and client alike, considerations that are the most efficacious or promising for all concerned. The therapist will get more kicks practicing short-term therapy because s/he is helping more people and that is a good and rewarding thing. The clients and the public will come to see that a short time in therapy, if it is needed at all, will bring a modicum of practical benefits (if it is well-conducted) for most people. These benefits, while they may need upgrading and bolstering now and again, will serve them well. This book, then, covers the most salient issues in short-term therapy. The author's ideas, research and practices presented here were forged on the anvil of experience, tempered with research, and coated with endless discussions with his students, colleagues, clients, and, of course, with those who read his writings and reacted both positively and negatively to them.
