A A broadside against the feeble Anglo-American efforts to prosecute Nazi war criminals. The author, a BBC producer, believes many Allied officers (not all-not, for example, General Clay) and most Germans collaborated on facilitating the reintegration into society of former Nazis and war criminals-to the great detriment, he argues, of the Bonn Republic. The mistakes were indeed many and systematic, but the bungled process deserves something better than this polemic, this prosecutor's brief; it needs a historian's effort to understand or truly reconstruct an appalling miscarriage of hopes and promises.
