The Elizabethan Theatre III: Papers

The essays in this book were given as papers at the Third International Conference on Elizabethan Theatre, held at the University of Waterloo from July 27 to July 31, 1970. The general theme of the conference was "Theatre and Society" and, in varying degrees, the papers in this book show how society influenced the drama of its time. As in Volumes I and II, however, most of them also show an implicit or explicit awareness of the structures of the theatres of the period, and an awareness of the people who worked in them.
