The XDCS Framework is a comprehensive blueprint for a complete system software environment that will provide for portability and interoperability of distributed applications. It identifies the required services, the relationships between them, the programming interfaces that provide for portability of applications, and the protocols and data formats that provide interoperability between systems that support these services. The framework represents a broad consensus on the elements in a complete distributed computing environment, including X/Open's XPG, the Object Management Group Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) , the Open Software Foundation Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) , and UNIX International UI-ATLAS Distributed Computing Framework. The architectural overview of the Systems Management model identifies the various components of the model. It employs object-oriented techniques. This is a high-level model which encompasses both OMG-compliant object-oriented technology and the OSI Network Management standards. It discusses the general properties of their interfaces and their means of interaction, and indicates an approach for coexistence of both models. The functional description of the X/Open Distributed Transaction Processing (DTP) model describes the software architecture that allows multiple application programs to share resources provided by multiple Resource Managers, and allows their work to be coordinated into global transactions. It describes the use of the DTP model within the X/Open Common Applications Environment (CAE) and has been updated to take account of DTP interfaces developed by X/Open, particularly with regard to how Communications Resource Managers (CRMs) fit within the X/Open DTP model.
