Translated from the original English text, the Spanish edition of this Caldecott Honor Book virtually comes alive in the reader's hands. In three very short stories, the reader witnesses a few special moments of love shared between three separate toddlers and adults. Although all of the pairs are from different cultures, the parallel of love and family is shown through snapshots of playtime with the children. The musical rhythm of the words is easily remembered long after the story is finished, and the vibrant pictures capture the characters' movement so impeccably that they jump off of the pages. The unique style of the illustrations causes them to blend seamlessly from page to page and even melt into the text. Although the book respects diversity, it observes similar strong family dynamics that unite people.
