A story of love, relationships and second chances.
Lucy was the 2nd sister and she left home and never looked back. Her older sister was left mentally impaired after an accident when she was in her teens. Lucy was there for Alice for the middle of the night phone calls when she couldn't sleep but as much as Alice wanted her to come home for Christmas every year she never did. Alice passed away and Lucy finally went back home. It was supposed to be a quick trip to tend to the funeral but Alice had a will, and the cottage would only become Lucy's if she stayed for 8 weeks. At first, Lucy was going to let the rescue shelter have it but she was convinced to stay. She could come back on weekends if she had to in order to get the time in. The characters in the book were so genuine and could be our friends and neighbors. The FOA, the friends of Alice, wasn't very friendly to Lucy when she first arrived and who could blame them. They all knew that Alice begged her to come home for Christmas every year and Lucy never came. After Lucy, discovered a quilt that Alice was working on, she decided to teach herself how to quilt in order to finish. But the first thing that happened was she cut her hand pretty bad, so the FOA, came over, only because of Alice, to teach her how to quilt. Lucy also found a trunk full of quilts, that all had a label on it and they were made for Maeve but no one knew who Maeve was. Read the book and you will find out who Maeve is, I loved it. This was a wonderful book about not only the relationship of sisters but the relationships they had with their parents, friends, like so many of us, when we grow up we don't see our sisters as much but the love is always there. I always have a hard time writing a review for a book that is so well written because it is the feelings that come through the book and words just can't convey those feelings. As I read the book the words seemed to slip away and the feelings came through and that is a wonderful experience. Read more
