Eleanor Alliston

Eleanor Alliston was a British author who, in 1949, left London with her husband John, a retiring naval officer, to settle on the remote Three Hummock Island in Tasmania's Bass Strait, where they lived from 1951 to 2002 and raised their family. She chronicled their adventurous life in the memoirs Escape to an Island (1966) and An Island Affair (1984), and also wrote romance novels. She died in 2003, a year before her husband.
